The collection of poems created by Romana Iorga is remarkable in several ways:
- I found many voices within the text.
- I was carried away and given the space of observer to her work.
- Romana’s words are of this world and otherworldly.
She chooses a dance between Elegy and Free verse as her template; I share several poems that I found particularly moving:
‘Alter Ego’ carries a message of hope and melancholy “. . . she made an ark for a language the color of loneliness . . . “. Those words stay with me like a heavy quilt, wet, and with threads linked to sunshine.
‘That Poem you Wrote’ compartments of existence and motion captured in a conversation with a reflection. The poetry is alive and morphing into something where words are foreign yet oddly mundane.
‘This Bruised Shadow of a Promise’ gives me a sense of loss, recovery, and regret. Promises take on a life of their own and are carnivorous “. . . others eat everything in sight until nothing’s left except that mouth of a thousand teeth …”
I recommend this collection. It is an important repository. The words cast their shadow and call the reader to the light.
