I Think We've Been Here Before

I began reading this novel with some trepidation. Dark, a little? A cosmic disaster will be an extinction level event for humanity. (Not a spoiler - that zinger is clear as day in the jacket notes.) Yes, that is dark. I dove in on the recommendation of a good friend and I was surprised.
The novel is filled with the certainly of living and the uncertainty and doubt we often have in our asking if we are living well. Nora and Jacob are thrown together in Berlin. Nora has left small town Canada and set off on her adventure. She carries hope, regret, and some anxiety.
There are multiple couples and wandering souls that find there way with the shock and sadness. There is a time when a cluster of people including Nora and Jacob gather for a sort of Christmas Eve celebration. The celebration is strangely not muted with the end of things hours away. There are wrinkles of joy and warmth and wondering . . . the sense for some gathered near the Christmas tree that they have known each other in another time.
Read this book and be overwhelmed by the bliss of silence, the tickles of wonder and the beauty of all life. I offer a Four-Star review for this novel.
